During checkout, is there a way to turn off phone confirmation code requests? Our clientele are seniors who sometimes lack cell phones or don’t know how to read text messages.

The only scenario I can think of where we would ask for a verification code is if they decide to use Square Pay. Is this what you are referring to?
If they have not selected Square Pay, we do not require a confirmation code during checkout.
Let me know if that is what you were referring to but if not, including a screenshot of the issue they are having (minus any personal information) would be helpful!
