There has been repeated requests for a "training mode" going back to 2016. It is now 2024 and this is clearly a feature that users need.
People need the ability to train new staff without messing up their records and incurring costs (refunding a transaction only refunds the sale amount not the processing fees incurred by the account holder).
Current officially suggested workarounds include:
- Set up "test" items with small prices. Do some transactions and refund them.
DOWNSIDES: Shows up in reports and you still get charged processing fees
- Set up a new account just to use for training.
DOWNSIDES: Have to link it to a bank account and still get charged processing fees.
Why on earth has this feature not been implemented?

I understand your frustration around the absence of a training environment on the app.
While I'm not aware of any current plans to introduce a training mode to the Square Point of Sale app, you can view Square's online guide to assist users in learning how to use the app and it's features effectively.
In the meantime, I'll continue to pass on the feedback we receive about this feature to our Product Team.
