Too many updates

Does anyone else have issues with their machine doing weekly updates? It took 1.5 hours today for a ‘5 minute’ update to take place, that I had to sign into my business partners machine and use hers. She NEVER gets updates on her machine. This is incredibly frustrating as I don’t have time to sit and wait for it to finish so I can ring my client through.

I'm sorry to hear updates are preventing you to take payments. Could you confirm which Square hardware you currently use ?

 

Most software updates happen automatically every 2–8 weeks, and take 20 minutes to complete (but may take up to one hour).

 

These updates are set at 3 a.m by default to avoid any disruption to your normal business hours. However, if you turn off your device during the night, the update will happen once you turn it back on. If your business partner uses a similar hardware but doesn't notice her updates, this might be because her device isn't turned off overnight.

 

I understand how frustrating it would be to get a software update while you're trying to process a payment. I would recommend to either leave your hardware on and plugged in at night, or to adjust your nightly reboot time:

  1. From the navigation bar, tap ≡ More > Settings > Hardware.
  2. Tap General > Nightly Reboot and select the time that works best for your business.
