I recently hosted a giveaway for some items on my Square site. I'd really like to be able to create a coupon/discount to be used that will allow the giveaway winners to go into the site, choose what they want, apply the coupon and checkout for free.
For example, one winner won 4 standard size greeting cards. I have 4 greeting card item listings with multiple standard size options listed. They should be able to choose any 4 standard cards from any of the item listings, add to cart, add coupon, and the cart should show $0.
I tried doing a coupon 2 ways -- the first being "free" and choosing the items that apply to the giveaway and "can use coupon" and set it to 4. When that didn't work, I tried "free", chose the items, then set to can redeem up to 4 times. That also didn't work.
So then I tried doing a discount using the exact item/quantity option. I set it to 4 and again picked the cards that applied to the discount. That also didn't work.
I'm really struggling to believe there isn't any way to set this up to work and feel like it's most likely user error.
@LSowell ;
The issue is most businesses do not 'Sell' items for $0.00 and Square makes minimum Credit Card transactions of $1.00.
Now I played around with this a few years ago to track an ad for local Honeymoon resorts. Each "coupon" was called the Resorts name. In this Coupon, I could scan a Barcode, which charged the customer for 2 items, which were inside a category that had a 100% discount on them. I am not sure if this would work for your situation.
So add you couponed items to a Category Free items. For the SKU for the Free Cards have Sku FreeTH25679 if Square generated the SKU of TH25679 for you. This way normal sales do not get the cards for free. Then have a Discount automatically applied to that category.
It took me a while to figure out but when I did it worked fine to track Inventory.
Since I do not use Square for my online store I am not sure if this would work for you being online. The other issue is having it Visable to X customer but not to R customers for example.
So I am not sure if my ideas would help you with ideas to try your coupons (free) items but test them before making any Live online. Major chains when coupons for online sales or discounts came out, got a lot of orders and lost money because employees entered prices wrong or did it intentionally.
