Setting Item Level Tax for Events sold online

I'm having trouble getting the item level tax (as set in the Item page) recognized for an Event item type in the online store. Somehow, before I enabled item level tax rates on the online store, I had it at least showing up as an included tax but once I enabled the item level tax settings for pickup, shipping and self-serve (all of them) the tax is no longer being calculated/displayed during checkout. 

 

Has anyone successfully gotten taxes to be calculated and displayed during checkout for Events in their online store?

I think I've figured out what happens. It looks like for any Event item types, the online store will use the order level tax rates and ignore the item level taxes. My guess is because internally, the store distinguishes between physical and events items when determining if the item is for pickup/delivery/or self-serve... and I guess an event is "none of the above"!?

Yes, you are correct. You can only assign Item-Level Taxes to physical items for Pickup, Delivery, or Self-Serve orders. Any other item type, and shipped orders, will use the store tax settings setup under Settings > Taxes on the Square Online dashboard

Hi, can you send a screenshot of what enabling item level taxes for online order would look like to customers on the order screen or on a receipt?

We currently don't have an example we can share, but my advice would be to do a test order for this.
