It seems odd I cannot find a way to restrict an item to be added to the cart only if another "qualifying" item is in the cart. My simple example is I do not want someone to be able to order a side of Fries, without ordering an Entree. The logic would simply be that the fry item cannot be added to the cart unless something from an entree category is already there.
Even WooCommerce can do this I am surprised this is a limitation with Square Online, or is there a work around? I do not want to add bundles with/without fries for every item that is cumbersome, but yes is a work around, or the Combo BETA would fix it but that is not yet available in square online.
Hey @CColotti. It might seem odd to you, but it is — as they say — what it is. Square Online just does not work this way. Of course, the combo beta should fix this eventually, but I have not heard when that will be available for the general public.
Can you give a better example of the kinds of products you want to do this with? Obviously, no restaurant would ever say we can only order fries with a sandwich, since that would be a great way to get a bad reputation and lose business. What are you trying to do? That would help to brainstorm a possible workaround temporarily.
We actually do at certain events as a food truck limit purchase of fries with an entree vs a stand alone item due to the fact it ties up the fryer and backs up orders. It does not affect our reputation at all b/c people understand it take too long just to make fries when we can also be making their entree while the fries are down. It's not the same as a brick and mortar with 3-4 fryers. So that is in fact our example, but the Combos will fix it....when it's added to Square Online, right now it hasn't been it's only on the POS side which is fine but is more confusing when you can only offer a combo at the window not online (different issue entirely). Guess we will have to wait for the combos to BETA for Online.
I think you are in good company there. Since combos became a thing, interest in wanting/needing it online has certainly exploded! No surprise there, of course.
And, your example now makes PERFECT sense. That’s why I ask questions because often I just cannot think outside the box, as it were. I love finding out things like this that I can file away when another seller might need them. Thanks!
