Removing fulfillment from item page

I get at least one call a day from customers who get stuck trying to add an item to their cart. They do not realize that they have to first select their fulfillment method, as well as a pickup location or delivery address if applicable, before they can put the item in their cart.

The key phrase that I hear on nearly every call is some variation of: "I can't add [item] to my cart because the button is grayed out." 

 

This generates unnecessary friction in the online shopping experience. I am likely losing out on sales because people are giving up. Can there be an option to move the fulfillment selection to the checkout screen instead of having it on the item page? 

 

As a matter of design, I really dislike having it on the item page anyway as it pushes the item description to the very bottom of the page.

HI, you can move the description up underneath the title and price.

 

Online Dashboard, Website, Edit Site, at the top click Page: Home, drop down appears, scroll down to select any item, click Item Details, scroll down to Description, checkmark the box to move description up.

Thank you @Goldneye! That is a huge help to make the item page more conductive to selling. 

 

I do still hope that there is an option to remove the fulfillment method from the item page as well.

My online store shows the pickup and shipping options on each item listing page. I would like for the customer to choose their fulfillment method at checkout for the entire order, rather than for each specific item. Is there a way to remove fulfillment methods from the item listing pages?

There is not a way to remove the fulfillment options from the item listing. I remember asking about this a long time ago and I guess there hasn't been any movement on it. For me it's more of an aesthetic annoyance because it takes up a lot of space on the item page.

 

The fulfillment method that a customer chooses on the item page does change the fulfillment for whole order; if they add Item A to their cart for pickup, then add Item B for shipping, Item A is switched to shipping too.  It's possible that has caused customer confusion and abandoned carts, but I can't be certain.

I checked in with the Square Online Store Support Team and they've confirmed this is still a feature request at this time. Although this feature isn’t currently available with Square, it’s a great idea and I can see how it would be beneficial to your business.

 

I’ve shared your feature request with our Product Team, as they are constantly improving our products based on feedback like this. To learn more about how feature requests work, please see this post from one of our Seller Community Moderators.

 

However, our SoS Support Team did suggest that you could use the order online template to get a similar functionality but there are some slight differences between the two templates in terms of how they each look and feel. A fulfillment method would have to be selected on either template in order to add it to the cart to checkout.
