USPS started charging extra for oversize (in my case too long) packages in April. The extra charge can be as much as $15 per package so it is not reasonable to absorb the cost. I also do not want to just increase the item price by $15 because this would look bad, could result in multiple $15 charges on a single order, and the extra charge should not have sales tax applied it is a shipping charge. I also want the customer to clearly see what the charge is for.
Conceptually this is a simple thing, if the order has a certain type of item and will be shipped then add a shipping surcharge, but I don't see any way to do it. I looked at shipping profiles but they don't work because an item can only have one profile applied. I looked for an app that might work but did not see anything.
Please DO NOT suggest upgrading to use real time shipping. The extra $50 is not worth it and the setup would be too much work. Because I sell antique tools, each item is a unique item and there are many hundreds of items. I currently charge for shipping by weight which is simple enough and this has worked well until now.
HI, you can add the additional fee to each item. Customer is then forced to select it, they can not move forward with purchase.
ex. customer facing
ex. in modifiers
Add in Modifiers, far right Manage Modifiers, far right click 3 dots, Customize, How many choice can customers pick select 1, Maximum allowed 1, check box Make Default, Done
Thanks. I've done that but it isn't an ideal solution. Can still get more than one surcharge per order and since I allow pickups it requires a second modifier with no charge. I fully expect this solution will eventually cause issues.
I wish this would be added. I offer free shipping on orders $30 and more. Except I have long fishing poles that kill me on "oversize" And I have sinker weight that will kill me just on weight. I tried the different shipping under fulfillment ie by item, but then it just makes a mess.
Really just want a $15 additional oversize shipping fee on long poles and add a $5 additional fee for sinkers. So if the order is under $30 you pay the shipping charge and the fee, but if the order is over $30 (regardless what you have in the cart) you just pay the additional fee. Its a pretty common practice in small business that cant eat the costs like the big box stores.
My poles are more than $30 so the fee stays on regardless. Not a problem, but sinkers can kill me.
