Online Store Inventory Not Updating/Syncing

Basically my stock is correct on the dashboard item library but on my website the stock is incorrect and has no limit, so for example it says I have multiple items of a product but I only have a single one left. Nothing seems to sync up and it seems to happen every few months.
Everything is as it should be, I have checked it all over and over again.
When this happened earlier this year and Square couldn't get to the bottom of it and I ended up having to rewrite my items and enter them all again as nothing worked.

Please help as this is all my Christmas decoration and gift stock...

Hi @Winterbrook,

I just want to make sure I’m understanding the issue correctly. When customers try to add an item to their cart, is the problem that they’re able to add more than the available quantity (for example, adding multiple units even though only one is in stock)? Or is it that the displayed stock count itself is incorrect?

Could you please provide a few example items where you’ve noticed this happening? And to confirm, is this affecting all items in your store or just certain ones?

Once I have a better understanding of the issue, I can help escalate this to our Square Online team for further investigation. In the meantime, if you’d like a more immediate response, you can reach our Support Team over the phone by calling from the number linked to your Square account, this will route you directly to phone support.

Our Support Team is available at 0800 098 8008, from Monday to Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM, British Time.

I have now just found multiple users on the community having the issue and it is down to the recent update from Square. Customers can add multiples of items which only have one in stock but get to checkout and then get a warning that the qty exceeds the inventory in stock. Customers are not bothering with checkout and leaving my site. The only solution is to write in each item listing that only one of the item is available.

This wasn't an issue until the update, will it ever go back to how it was before? It doesn't work properly for small business as an e-commerce site anyway. This is my busiest time of year usually online and its really affecting my sales.

Hi Laurie,

Thanks for replying.

Yes you are correct, the amount a customer can add to their basket is infinite, although I do not have that amount of stock and it is correct in my inventory on my dashboard/library. The amount of stock showing for most items on my website is incorrect, with no limit (you could order 100's which is wrong!)

I had the same issue at the beginning of the year with stock showing on my website incorrectly and the Square team could not get to the bottom of it. In the end I had to manually delete and rewrite item entries to get them correct. This time the stock is incorrect over masses of items in all different categories so not sure what to do.

Everything is synced as far as I can tell and there is nothing wrong with locations or anything in the dashboard/item listings.

Sorry for the wait to get back to you here, @Winterbrook!

Looking at your screenshots and testing my own website, I can confirm that this is currently the expected behaviour for Square Online websites. That said, you’ve highlighted a clear user experience issue: customers may believe they can add an unlimited quantity to their cart.

What happens next is that when they proceed to checkout, they’ll see a message advising them of the actual available quantity for that item and prompting them to correct the quantity in their cart.

While this isn’t an ideal experience, it is currently working as designed. Several other Sellers have shared similar feedback and posted workarounds in this thread, where I can see you've been involved in discussions.

In the meantime, I’ll continue to raise this feedback with our Product Team and advocate for a quantity limit to be enforced before the checkout flow begins. For transparency, this feedback has been received via multiple channels, so we'll do our best to update all relevant threads simultaneously but this is not always possible.

I appreciate the reply, thankyou but the workaround is not good enough.

Since the unlimited quantity changes, I have seen a real decline in online orders via my website this November/December which is my busiest time for online orders. The current workaround just confuses customers and the give up and leave my website.

It really is important that this gets changed back as a matter of priority as currently the Square online shop I pay for & have invested in, is not fit for purpose for a small business and this is not good enough given the money and time I have spent developing my business over the last few years.

Ive given up trying to get help as I have been really disappointed by the slow & unhelpful response from Square support & others share my frustration. In the meantime I am going to start researching other e-commerce platforms I could move to as an alternative, although I’ve invested in Square hardware and paid for subscriptions.
I hope this issue is indeed addressed as a serious problem by your tech support.
