Online Ordering Limit Items Based on Categories

Hey Guys! We are a pizza place and we are setting up our online ordering with square right now and need to be able to limit the number of pizzas someone can order at once. I see the item limit, but it seems too generic for what we are looking for. With the generic item limit, if someone orders a drink, gelato cup, side of ranch, etc. that would count as an item. All we need to limit is our pizzas, not everything else. Can square please create a way to limit items by Item Category?

Our sandwich shop, which offers catering, would also greatly benefit from this feature! We generally consider an order of 12 or more sandwiches to be catering order for which we charge an auto gratuity. So it would be very useful if the ordering site would reject anything above that and instruct the customer to request catering. Like the OP mentioned, a limit on total items per order is not helpful for our application.

Hi @pieinthesky1 ! 

 

I use Square for Retail, so I apologize if this may be different in the restaurant setup.

 

In the item library when you edit an item, there is a section called "Manage Checkout". There you can set a quantity limit.  However this would only work if you have one item for "Pizza" with a handful of options/variations or item modifiers for various toppings.

Hey @pieinthesky1 can I ask (as a fellow pizza restaurant owner) what the purpose of limiting the number of Pizzas is for-just a little curious.  I know you can't set a limit based on category, and personally i can't see a benefit to this.  I thought at one time on Square online (online ordering platform) we could limit or prevent large orders but I cannot find that now.  I'd love to understand what you are trying to achieve with this if you could give me some more context.
