Online Coupon Code Limited By Customer

I want to send out a coupon in my next email blast, but only allow the customer to redeem once. How can I do that? Also, when I created a coupon to grab new customer's email addresses, it doesn't stop them from using the same code over and over again. How is that helpful to have a customer be able to use a 10% off discount in perpetuity?
