New preorder feature

Does anyone else use the new preorder feature? I am having trouble understanding the workflow. I need to have stock in order for preorders to be taken. How do I adjust the stock (prior to receiving it physically) and what do I do after I take delivery?

 

If I "receive" the stock early, I may need to adjust it later if I am short-shipped or if the cost changes. I also run the risk that I receive it twice (assuming I sell 100% of my preorders, it will show 0 qty when I take delivery and I will not have an indication that I shouldn't receive it a second time).

 

If I do a "re-count", this will look better on my vendor reports but I may still end up with stock showing because I receive the product on delivery (which increases the stock count despite it already being sold).

 

I don't see a good solution here. Help?
