Item description rich text formatting/syncing issue > POS + Square Online

Hello, I'm a website designer that works for Square Online sellers.

One of my clients reported an issue with item description formatting/syncing.

I was able to replicate this issue as well.

He also reported the issue to Square support and it is being addressed.

My client's team has spent many hours styling item description text for his online store.

Hopefully a fix will be completed soon.

We wanted to get the word out so other sellers are aware:

The issue:

When inventory is updated in POS > Items > Item Library > [select item] > Details > Variations > [line item] > Stock > Receive …

The item description rich text formatting is removed and then unformatted text is synced to the online store.

For reference:

Screenshots are attached.

I recently started experiencing this issue as well. I'm not running an online store and I don't even have to go as far into updating an item... it's happening every time I go in and make even the smallest change anywhere that isn't in the actual description box. @Square

We're having the same problem -- now we have to go through our online products (thousands of them) and reformat and hope they stay.  This is unacceptable.

Agreed, completely unacceptable! I've spent the past 4 weeks entering an entire store's worth of inventory, we're set to officially open in less than a week, and all of the work I did is now getting all messed up at the worst timing ever 😭  I am sorry you are having to deal with this as well.. I share in your frustration!

I'll share a workaround that I've started doing (adding it to the ever growing "workarounds" list) - since you're online your customers will see it, whereas I'm brick and mortar so only I see it.. but what I'm doing now is whenever I go into an item, no matter what I may be doing in there, I make sure to click in the description box, throw a couple spaces at the end and stick an asterisk at the bottom. It seems to be that as long as I add an additional something to the description box, the formatting will hold in place. Randomly deleting a word and re-writing it doesn't count, and neither does adding something and then deleting it. You have to actually add something extra and leave it there for the original format to remain. It's ridiculous. This is ridiculous 😒
