Is there a way to make new customers pick a specific service for first time online booking?

I thought I saw an option for the online booking site that forced New customers to only have one option for services their first visit. An example would be new customers could only  book an intake appointment or a consultation. And returning customers had the full service list available to them. 

Am I crazy or is this something that can be done?

You're definitely not crazy! 😂 As of now, Square does not offer a built-in setting to restrict first-time clients to a specific service automatically. However, I am going to outline some workaround options below that I have seen other Sellers use. They aren't perfect, but they will get the job done. 

 

Use Staff-Based Service Availability

You can assign specific services ("New Client Intake") to a staff member that isn't real that is only visible to new clients.

 

How it works:

  1. Create a “New Client” staff profile in your Appointments settings.

  2. Assign only your intake/consultation services to that staff member.

  3. Customize your booking link so only this “New Client” provider is shown on a special booking page and then share that link with new clients. 

  4. Returning clients can use your regular booking page with all staff/services visible.

This way, only intake services show up to those using the “New Client” link.

 

Separate Booking Sites

You could also create two locations in Square. One called “New Clients” and another for “Returning Clients". Each with its own set of available services. Your “New Clients” location only shows intake services.

  • Pros: Clean separation between service types

  • Cons: Some extra admin and reporting complexity

Hopefully a more streamlined process will come out soon, but until then, I hope this helps!
