How to add custom field on order form

I need customers to enter the business/school/organization they are from and have it as a mandatory field. How can I add this at checkout?

Adding fields to the checkout screen is not possible, unfortunately. 

You can, however, add modifiers to your items to allow customers to enter custom text. This article explains in detail how to add modifiers to your items.

After looking for an answer to the same question....it seems like this has been something that users have been asking for over and over again for at least five years now.  It seems crazy that Square can't add this feature, or at minimum a feature to allow the Notes on the checkout page to be Required.  Anyone know who we need to start emailing to make this happen?
