While you cannot attach a processed card payment to an invoice, you can record the invoice as paid without creating any discrepancies in your reporting.
To do this, select the invoice your customer has already paid for. Under Payments, select Add payment.
You will see the option to Charge card already selected. We want to change this to Record payment. Under Payment Type, there is an option to select Square Point of Sale. Then, hit Confirm.
This will record the invoice as paid, as well as the method of payment.
In future, you can accept a payment for an invoice directly from your Square Point of Sale app.
1. Open the Square Point of Sale app.
2. Select More > Invoices > select your invoice.
3. Tap Add Payment.
4. Enter or Select the payment amount.
5. Tap Next.
6. Select the appropriate payment method.
7. Continue the check-out flow.
