How can I discount e-gift card purchased during a date range?

I run a restaurant in the US and have enabled e-gift card sales on my Square online site.  I want to discount sales of e-gift cards for a few days starting Black Friday.  I can create a discount with a date range and set it up to apply to only certain items, but e-gift cards are not listed in my items list.  Alternatively, if I get to the "create discount" screen by clicking "discounts" under "e-gift cards", it does not allow me the date range option.  Does anyone know how to do this?  I don't want to have to be up at midnight to enable and disable this manually.  Thanks for any help.

Hi, @mitos !

You're not missing anything. Square simply does not support scheduled e-gift card discounts natively.

Here's a workaround option:

Instead of discounting actual gift card values, you create a product like:

  • $50 Black Friday Gift Card (Costs $40)
  • $100 Holiday Gift Card (Costs $85)

These do show up in your item library.

How it works:

  1. Create a regular item (not a gift card)
Example: Black Friday $100 Gift Card
  2. Price it at whatever you want customers to pay
  3. When purchased, you manually issue an actual e-gift card for the correct value to the buyer

This is some work on the backend, but it should work for what you are trying to do.
