Getting rid of two-step verification FOREVER!

We need your help!  We are a co-op, and all our members need access to square from home and at our store.  We have turned off two-step verification, but regularly get notices about setting it up.  We don't want those notices, particularly since our members get confused.  And just now square made us change our password; we have never had to do that before.  I suspect we were asked to do so because we are not using two-step.  Please, please, we want to go back to the old square without all this two-step and password changing.

Who can help?  You will collect good karma forever if you can solve this problem.  Thank you!

Hello @Ashaver thanks for your post. I would consider using the Team Member feature in Square, and setup your members as Team Members, rather than giving everyone complete and total access to your Square account. You'd be able to restrict certain areas of your Square account, giving access to only the areas the co-op members really need.

Not sure about your business, but are you a marketplace or vendor co-op, where you work with consignments? If so you could also explore other inventory management options, where you and your co-op members could all manage their individual sales and inventory. One option is this...tell them Homestyle Charlie referred you 🙂 It's a website/plugin where individual co-op members can add/remove their own inventory, and you as the store seller can then manage the sales from their inventory.

I hope this might help answer your question! Thanks for being a member of the Square Seller Community!

We are an artists' co-op with about three dozen members, all of whom need access to square (which we love).  We absolutely cannot deal with two-step verification!  Please, please, please remove the notification which pops up randomly and sometimes our members forget and activate the two-step verification which causes absolute havoc.  Please, we do not need or want two-step verification, and we have not activated it.  We just want that notification to stop!  Please!

Hey there, @Ashaver -

Do you have the two step verification set up as the account owner? Or is it just for your co-op members?

Also, is the notification asking you to enter the verification code or is it asking you to set it up

I will keep an eye out for your reply👀.

I have not set up two-step verification and do not want to.  Consequently, there is a periodic reminder to anyone who signs on.  Some of our members get confused, and that starts a chain reaction, where I have to change the password and let all members know the new password.

The notification is asking us to set up two-step verification.  I would love for that to be disabled! Your system won't let me include a screen shot, but this is what it says: Protect Your Account: We will text you a one-time passcode now and each time you log in to ensure that you are the only one with access to your account.

Right now, we click "remind me next time", and then on the next screen we click "continue to square" in the Are you Sure? block.

Please disable these two screens and do not require us to set up two-step verification!  We DO NOT WANT IT!

Thank you for listening!

Hi @Ashaver ,

I can help you with that. I work at Square on Account Security. I will send you a private message with my calendar booking link. Please book a call with me so I can personally walk you through your concerns and how to resolve this.

We take our sellers' security very seriously which is why we are prompting two-step verification enrollment. Without it, it's much easier for the wrong person to get access to your password and potentially access your Square balance and private business / personal information. Every year there are very public data breaches where account emails and passwords are leaked broadly to unauthorized individuals.

You have login options including setting up individual employee accounts, using device codes to login to store devices or the easiest option, everyone in the co-op can add their own mobile phone number as a valid two-step verification number. Each individual can perform two-step verification one time and remember their device for 90 days -- you definitely don't need it at every login. I can walk you through any of these options.

Thanks,

Mimi

I agree, "Getting rid of two-step verification FOREVER!" The nagging messages are confusing to employees, and there should be a way to DISABLE the option. I can see that many comments have requested this, and Square is silent.

Hello @grechnitz1

At this time, Square is working on increasing the security of our Sellers and their account to prevent unwanted logins and other administrative actions. Your feedback and that of other Sellers wanting to remove 2-Step Verification is heard loud and clear. However, while Square can identify a better way to improve and increase overall account security, this would be required.

Thank you for taking the time to express this interest.

Apparently Square does not care about user needs.

I do NOT WANT two step authentication. The only person who uses the account is ME.

I don't want to do it every 90 days I want to do it NEVER.

If I wanted this stupid waste of time impediment to using Square I would have signed up for it when first proposed.

I do not have a 'primary mobile phone' I have a land line. I use a Tracfone that is only turned on at shows,  lives in my car, and is set up to auto login so I do not have to try to use the tiny phone screen keyboard to login every time.  I do not want to deal with codes being tapped into said screens. or text messages to nowhere when I log into Square on m PC.

I think its pretty arrogant to presume everyone has a primary mobile phone or that mobile phones work where everyone lives.

For me this is a terrible imposition.  I don't see why Square will not listen to  the people who use it!

Yes, a LONG line of people pleading for Square to remove this two-step intrusion. So far, none of us are seeing any movement from them to make it an option. If anyone has found a workaround, please share.

Yeah I thought this company was all about facilitating users but I guess not anymore.

All I do with Square is run credit cards at shows on my Tracfone and do reports on earnings and fees on my PC.

I have the same situation with many volunteers logging in with our main login, and getting confused with two step verification.  Even though I’ve printed out cheat sheets tell them how to bypass, Square seems to change it so it’s always required even though I go in and remove it every time someone accidentally configures it.  It’s a nightmare and prevents our customers from being able to use their credit cards for purchases reducing our sales.  I will look into the team member option, but honestly, it’s just not needed for concession sales at a high school.
