Free Domain

If you get a free domain name does it have to have the .weebly.com in it?

I am trying to set up a free domain and it keeps taking me to Weebly. I do not want to use my Weebly (as I don't recall my domain name and it was years ago so I want something new). What do I do??? I have read your articles and I am lost. Thanks.

*** Removed my TheRealChipA *** I misread this post and gave a very incorrect response here.  Sorry about that.

@pinkcricket First, apologies for misreading/misunderstanding your first questions.  This issue is not something that we can handle on our own, it doesn’t look like.  I see no way on our dashboards to do this.  It looks like you will have to call Square Support and see what they can do on their end, if it is even possible, which I admit I do not know.

Good luck,

Hi, I tried calling the square # and it took me to a text message! I want to speak with someone live and stop all this texting. Is that not possible? i am about to turn off this square and open something else as I find this platform to be not user friendly and a mess.

Hi @pinkcricket.  Yes, it does. The same goes for Square online websites which end in .square.site

This is because Square/Weebly can only give you a free site URL that is a subdomain of a URL they own. Anything else is considered by ICANN (the folks who control URLs) to be a custom URL/domain name, something you have to purchase and register.

Those are the internet rules for companies like Square to offer “free” domains.
