Note: I'm going to use the term "Square Proper" to refer to regular ol' squareup.com / the Square POS app.
We have the following config:
- Square Online set to include tax in item prices
- Square Proper set to include tax in item prices
- We only sell within our province, so they both apply the same inclusive tax rate of 15%
When we add an item using Square Online, we do *not* select the checkbox that says "This item is tax exempt" and the tax breakdown is shown for online orders that include that item (ie: indicating how much of the total amount is the 15% tax).
Square then syncs that item from Square Online to Square Proper and we add it to our restaurant menu for taking orders in-store. It syncs nearly everything we need with one exception: taxes are not enabled on the item. And so every time we add a new item we not only have to add it to our restaurant menu, but we also have to manually enable taxes in Square Proper.
Is Square sync supposed to sync that tax setting? If so, it's not working. If it's not, then it sure would be great if it could be added such that as long as the tax exempt checkbox is not checked when creating an item with Square Online, tax is enabled for the item in Square Proper.
I realize that taxes are set a bit differently between Square Online and Square Proper, which could make this trickier. Perhaps it could only be auto-synced if the global tax settings are the same between the two systems.
