Embed Code on Square Online

Hello,

I'm a website designer that composes Square Online websites for clients.

I've added an embed code section to my client's website. The embed code that I entered is 209 characters. This section should populate with a third-party reviews app feed. It does not render properly and instead shows up blank on the live page.

Embed code for other third-party apps that I've placed on clients' Square Online websites renders correctly. In this case the embed code is less than 200 characters.

Square Online phone support informed me that the problematic embed code (209 characters) is too long.

The reviews app developer has asked if Square could increase the embed code character limit to accommodate the longer reviews feed code.

I really want to resolve this issue because the reviews feed is beneficial for selling to customers.

Thank you for any helpful advice or guidance.

Hello @taylorandjones thanks for your post. I'm sorry you're having trouble with this. I'm going to ask something, and please don't be upset with me LOL (as a non-code person)...I'm wondering if there is anyway you can reduce the code by 9 or 10 characters so it would work...without affecting the performance? Again, I don't know anything about code, but if Square is not able to make a change on their end to accommodate the additional number of characters, I'm just brainstorming work arounds....or perhaps any way to split the code into two sections so each would be under the 200 limit?

Maybe another Square Community seller with more experience in coding would be able to offer a better work-around for you. Good luck and I hope you'll be able to find a solution.

Hello @HC_Charlie thank you for your note. I'm working through this with the app developer too. We tried, unsuccessfully, splitting the code and placing some of it in the header and some of it in an embed section. This developer has stated that they cannot shorten the code and requested that I approach Square about allowing more characters. So, I'm the messenger, advocating for my clients and Square sellers 🙂

**UPDATE** I continued working with Square support and the third-party app developer about this issue:

The third-party app developer reduced the number of characters in the script.

Square support, the third-party app developer, and I, figured out that the CSS width setting for the feed element wasn't rendering the content properly. The app developer provided additional CSS code and I added it, along with the shortened script code, to the embed element.

Voila! The feed now appears and my client's reviews are visible.
