Do categories not sync between Square Retail and Square online?

I'm just starting my Square Online store after a year of being retail only. I am about to add 3000+ items from Square Retail Item Library to Square Online. But when I did a test of a single item, I noticed it did not have the category assigned. Am I going to have to manually assign a category to over 3000 items? I feel like I have to be missing something. Thank you!
