Discount Code Does NOT Work When Link is Sent to Customer

I have come to understand that COUPON CODES and DISCOUNT CODES are different in the Square platform (stupid if you ask me) I have followed the instructions on how to create a discount code for a specific product. Automatic Discount Code seems the best choice. However, after the discount code is created, it does not work when I send the corresponding link to clients.  The Automatic Discount code only works in the Square mobile app. Again, how to fix this issue of the Automatic Discount Code not working when the item link is sent to customers?

Thank you

Hi @JJCust528.  We are basically a group of fellow sellers here trying to assist other sellers in using Square.  So, since you opened the door, we didn’t ask you your thoughts about Square’s software design.  In the future, please don’t feel compelled to tell us about them.  Stick to the issues and resolutions here.  Now, to your issues.

You would find general agreement here (and especially from me, someone who has used Square now for 10+ years) that coupons and discounts need to be merged.  Those of us who have been around a while are seeing that Square is merging various similar functionality like this, and we are hopeful that the world of discounts and coupons will get its turn soon.  I’m hopeful since the few feature requests I’ve sent over the years have not been rejected and seem to be in either an open or accepted status.  But, we will see.

That being said, all discounts and coupon codes were created with an online store or a POS in mind.  They were not designed to work with payment links.  Why?  Because payment links are designed solely to be a quick way to sell item without all the bells and whistles of an online store.  They are quick one-offs.  If you want these to work, then you need to create an online store and sell items there.  Thankfully, there is a free tier for all online stores which, since you are using payment links will probably work for you for now.  But I would not expect payment links to be changed just because you think they should have been designed differently.  They work for what they were intended to work — nothing more.
