We received a notification of on online order, though the item purchased shows a stock count of zero. We are confused as to why the online store would allow a purchase of an item with a zero count, shouldn't it have showed "Sold out" and not have allowed the item to be added to the cart? Any thoughts on how this was able to happen?
We reviewed our stock history and the item has been sold out since October.
Hello @curio !
That is odd! The only time I've seen that happen is when two people try to order an item with a stock of 1 simultaneously.
For your case, since the item hasn't been available since October, the only thing I can think of is that your customer had viewed the item back then and placed it in their cart. They came back to order it now, and since it was still in their cart the online store allowed the sale to happen. The store should have caught it and alerted the customer though. Perhaps with all the back end upgrades the online store has seen since October the former inventory counts were ignored?
I don't believe this should be an issue for you going forward. I think it was just a programming fluke.
Thank you Ryan,
This could make sense, let's hope it doesn't happen in the future.. Another odd thing was the item didn't show a red "out of stock" notice underneath it, we tried adding it to a cart ourselves and noticed it allowed us to add any quantity without capping..totally bizarre.
Okay, if it isn't showing an out of stock alert on the site right now then you do have an issue going on.
Your best bet is to contact customer service so they can look into it at an account level. Follow the link in my signature to get your customer code and support number.
