Control on "Cleared" or Cancelled Sales

On Square, a cashier can establish a sale, collect the cash, put the funds in the register and then Cancel/Clear the sale before finalizing.  Later these funds can be taken out to balance.

Is there some control or report that records that a sale got started but never went to completion.  The above makes it easy to correct an entry error by just starting over. In older registers, if the staff made an error, they simply closed the sale, made a note on the receipt to reverse.

For the last 2 weeks I see no entry errors and today the cash is over $100.  Were these cancelled sales where it was not convienient to remove the money before closing.

It would be hard to detect this without some record that a sale started but never finished. It seems unclear if Team Management and Permissions can report.

Cheers and thanks,

Hey there @sofspra

Thanks for reaching out to the community, I’d like to understand your issue a little easier, when you take a cash payment, are you deleting/clearing the sale rather than recording that sale at all?

Did you know you can record cash sales on Square POS as well?

To record cash sales on Square POS, Open The Square POS App Or The Respective Square Hardware > Add Items > Charge > More > Other Payment Types > Cash

I hope I’ve helped you today, if I have, please mark this as best answer for others looking for answers to this or something similar in the future! 😎

Ok, if I am a sharp cashier and I ring up a  potential  Sale which provides a Total and I see it is going to be Cash, I can just Clear the potential sale, open the register and do the change and put the money in the till.  Later in the day, it is just a matter of removing the money and there seems to be little or no control.

These are just cleared transactions.  Cancelled transactions might be controlled through Team Management by not allowing a regular cashier to Cancel.  We are not  dealing with "Sales" here.

I run an Ice Cream Shop and with the old type register, if an entry error was made, the cashier had to close the sale and note the slip to be adjusted in the totals.  With Square I hardly ever see a messed transaction because the cashier can just Clear and start over.

Perhaps I am missing something.  Perhaps we need to tighten down on who can open the till when not associated with a completed sale.

Thanks for your attention.
