About using Square for online purchases of digital products

I purchased a Square account on March 16 and the Square Reader is being shipped to me. Maybe it wasn't clear to me when I was signing up, but I want to be able to process orders for my digital products on the internet using an online sales page which links to an online checkout page where the customer can input their personal and credit card information and click on a Buy Now button. My customers will be mostly in the USA but a large number of them will be from Canada and other countries around the world. I doubt if I'll ever have point-of-sale purchases where the customer will be physically placing their credit card into the Square reader. Can I use Square for the online purchases I described above or have I made a huge mistake?

You could likely return the reader, but yes it is for in person shopping and would not be needed by the sound of your use case.

Hi there, @Paul_T,

That is a great question! You would have to set up a Square Online site and create shipping rate profiles for the US to allow customers to purchase. With shipping rate profiles, you can set up customizable shipping options that automatically apply when a shipment order is placed. You can create rules to determine shipping rates by country and service levels to determine costs and speed to ship. For more details on this, I recommend checking out this article. For the Square Reader that was purchased, you would need to contact our direct Customer Success team to review your options.
