How do I delete a Category?

Hi,

New to Square and have ended up adding two categories instead of sub-categories.  How do I delete these?  Can anyone help please?

Hi @Trish_UK, thank you for reaching out! To delete the categories, that will depend on where you created it.

If it was created from the Square Point of Sale app or the Square Dashboard, you can delete it by:

1. Go to your Square Dashboard > Items > Categories

2. Click the three dots next to the category you wanted to delete > Delete

If the category was created from your Square Online site, you can delete it by:

1. Go to your Online dashboard

2. Select Item > Categories

3. Tick the box next to the category you want to delete, a Delete button will appear at the top right hand corner

4. Alternatively, if you click into that particular category, you will not only see the option to delete but also the option to move it into a sub-category

Hi, I’ve read the best answer for my question but i can’t seem to get it to work my website was created on an iPad. I cannot find the delete option 😞 please help

Hi @Chameleonjewel, I'm happy to help! before we start, are you able to access your Square website from a web browser or are you currently checking it via the app? If you can send some screenshot of all the options that you can see, that'd be much appreciated.

I’ve tried doing it via safari but I get the same options

Thanks so much for sending that on! From the screenshot, it looks like you are in the Edit Site section which is a bit different. You'd need to navigate to the Items > Categories on your website in order to delete the category.

If you click into the Page: Home tab, you should see an X and be able to exit this screen. Once you exit, you'll be brought back to your Overview page and should see items > Categories as in the screenshot from the answer.
