HI, we are new to square, using the registers and terminals, and the Epos system we previously used had Generic HID / USB barcode scanners, do square have any plans to make more compatibility with generic devices does anyone know?
I'm not very 'down with the POS' if you'd put it like that, but I do believe there are limitations as to what can be made compatible with a square system, however I managed to recall @Alans1 putting together this thread that may help you to find a great barcode scanner compatible with square.
Here are also some help articles to help makes sure that if the scanner is compatible it is connecting correctly:

This is also a great page to check the compatibility of your older POS devices:

I hope this could help, if it did, don't hesitate to mark it as best answer to help others in the future!

Hi thanks for the links, much appreciated 🙂
The big sticking point on this is what tablet/Square hardware you're using.
Android based (including the Sq Terminal & Register) is a lot more accepting of generic barcode scanners (as they generally emulate the bigger brands anyway). With iOS there is a specific way they need to operate as iPads don't recognise the very basic number & enter command unless the curser is already in the right place for data entry - so it's mainly the socket mobile scanners that have taken the lead in this area.
If you've already got the Square hardware, have you tried just plugging it in? (You'd need a USB C hub for the terminal - you can't connect to the USB C port with a USB A to USB C adaptor & the unit has to be plugged into a power supply).
Hi, thanks for the response, we are using the terminals and registers, i have tried on both and tried different settings on the scanners but to no avail. Its not a major issue would just have been handy not having to buy new as the scanners we have are only 18 months old. Thank you again 🙂
