Failure to connect to square

I can no longer do payments through the appointments app, I'm getting a " failure to connect to square" notice, but when I test connectivity, everything is fine. The n when I try to turn off and turn the tap to pay, I get a "screen is not private" notice.  I was able to do payments a couple of weeks ago, and then one day they just stopped working. Don't know where to go from here

Hi @AlmightyOnion 👋 thanks for flagging this.

I haven't heard of this error message before. Just to confirm, is it the Square Reader that you have connected to your device?

Can you try deleting and reinstalling the app and then reconnecting the Reader?

Follow the steps below to pair your reader:

  1. Go to the Square Appointments app > tap the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner to navigate to the menu.

  2. Tap Settings > Card Readers.

  3. Tap Contactless + Chip Reader > Connect My Reader Wirelessly.

Let me know how it goes.

It is not the square reader, but the tap to pay on my phone (like the square POS app, but through the appointments app). I have uninstalled, reinstalled, forced closed it, signed out, signed back in, my phone is fully updated, and even still I have restarted my phone in case. I quite literally don't know what else to do. The square POS app still works, so thankfully I can still use that, but it would be so much more useful to be able to pay through the appointments app, and keep track of my clients.

Last ditch effort will be to purchase a square reader and hope that actually works.

Thanks for clarifying @AlmightyOnion, that is frustrating. I am glad it's still working on your point-of-sale app.

Are you using iOS or Android for Tap to Pay? What version is your device and app on?

@AlmightyOnion, have you successfully used Tap to Pay before? Did your phone recently have an update? I noticed that the Google Pixel 8a isn’t listed among our tested devices, so we can't guarantee full compatibility with all features.

Please refer to the image below for more details.
