Using Square Register & have Square kds screen

We have Square KDS and am wondering how to get orders to the KDS screen in real time like how a drive-through works so by the time they pay we could have the food ready for them?

Great Question.

With Square KDS, you can have the orders show up when they are placed, marked in progress, or based on pickup time. View point of Sale orders, will show whenever the bill is sent on Square for Restaurants app, or when an open ticket is saved in Square Point of Sale.

We are not seeing the orders on the KDS screen until AFTER payment is received.  Is it possible for them to show while orders are being taken from the cashier?  It's taking about 45 seconds to 1 minute after the transaction just to see the order on the KDS screen.  We want our customers to have their food by the time they pay.  Some POS systems have an option to send order to kitchen prior to completed transaction.
