Team Permissions: unallowed to use till

I was told by Square today that there is no way to create a permission that allows someone to clock in with their code, but to not have access to the register. A barista of mine is on probation, and shouldn't have access to the register. Is that true? What about the 13 year old dishwasher? He needs to clock in and out, but should not have access to the till. I don't want to 'deactivate' the account (temporarily removing access to the till), because the employee still needs to clock in and out, doing jobs other than working the register/till.

I was told that there was no such permission. That seems like poor security.

Hi there @CTinGF.  So, first, I had to check it out for myself since I thought you could at least create a new permission set that did not have checkout privileges.  To my surprise, that is definitely not possible.  I just assumed that the support person gave you some incorrect information, which sometimes does happen.  Anyway, I have a work-around that should work for you in the short term and give you a little pease of mind, I hope.

You can have all of your team members download the free Square Team App on their phones?  Then, they can use it to clock in and out.  You should then disable clock in/out functions on your POS devices because team members won’t have to use them for clocking purposes.  If you or anyone else sees them on a POS devices they can assume the worst.

That being said, this does not fix the ultimate problem, but it does make it less likely.  For that, I have submitted this feature request to Square.  Please click the link to go to it and upvote it.  I’ve never had reason to use something like this since I’ve never had a reason to suspect my employees, thankfully, but I definitely see the use for something like this!
