Square Terminal Won't Start - Stuck on Logo Screen

Turn on square. Paper moves a touch, screen symbol comes on

dull. A few secomds later the machine beeps and the screen symbol gets bright. Then nothing further. What to do??

Hi @AndyHiggins,

Since you haven't specified the device you're using, but mentioned that the "paper moves a touch," I'm assuming you're referring to the Square Terminal.

If that's the case, and the logo is pulsating on your screen without progressing, we can try performing a factory reset to reboot the device and help you sign back in.

Please follow the steps below to proceed:


1. Hold down the power button for 20–30 seconds until you see a black screen with a countdown timer. Keep holding down the power button until the timer gets to 0 and the screen says you can release the power button.
2. Once the reset is complete, you’ll need to go back through basic setup questions like your time zone.

3. Reconnect to the internet.

4. Sign back in with your email address and password or device code.

5. Add accessories such as cash drawers, printers or barcode scanners. Learn more about connecting compatible hardware to Square Terminal.

6. Adjust any settings back to your preferences.
