We used to have some troubles when using the Square Stand with an iPad. Occasionally the charging connection was not working properly and the iPad would keep shutting off. Another issue we'd have was more simple, as the screen would time out and go into sleep mode after a few minutes of no use. This was an easy fix in the display settings of the iPad, but seems like your problem could be bigger than this?
