Renaming Square Device

We have a fully integrated POS Square register (that has already been set-up and we have been using it) and we are trying to change the name of the device in the dashboard.  I cannot find a way to change this.  I can see where I can change the name of the device code, but that isn't helpful in this situation at all. Does anyone know how to change the name of the actual device?

You’re right to notice that the device code name and the device name shown in your Dashboard are two different things. I'll outline below how to rename the device. 

 

How to rename your device

  1. On your Square Register, tap the (three-line) menu in the top-left corner.

  2. Go to Settings → Hardware → General → About Register.

  3. Tap Device Name and edit it to your preferred name 

  4. Tap Save.

Once you update it, you’ll see the new name appear in your Dashboard under “Devices”, making it easier to identify in reports and settings.

 

If you’re using other devices (like a tablet or Square Stand running the POS app), you can follow the same steps within the app:

  • Open the Square POS app → Settings → Hardware → General → Device Name → edit and save.

My three-line menu in the upper left corner does have have the settings option, but I went to More → Settings → Hardware → General → About Register and was able to rename it.  Thank you so much!!  This did exactly what we needed.

So does this mean that the Device name can ONLY be changed on the device itself, and that there is NOT a way to do so using the Dashboard web portal?  Thanks much.
