Has anyone else had issues printing credit card receipts from their handhelds? We have had nothing but trouble from this system. I've had to manually enter the static IP addresses of two printers onto every device to get them to print.
Am i doing something wrong? I have three printers connected via ethernet. an expo printer (star sp742) for printing to go orders only (we use kds monitors), a bar ticket printer for automatically printing drink tickets (i assigned it to print auto on only alcoholic drinks) to the bar (also sp742), and a TSP 100 for the front receipt printing. all are assigned to the handhelds and the profile is set correctly. i've checked and rebooted and forgot and reinstalled, i've checked for all updates, and now i'm about to throw this system away.
anyone have any answers? or, anyone you'd recommend to help set this up? I'm a service technician by trade, so this isn't over complicated, but something is amiss..
@Rahb Welcome to the community. You're definitely not the only one who's run into printer issues with the handhelds. Manually entering static IP addresses can work around discovery problems, but you shouldn't have to keep doing it.
A few things I'd check:
1. Make sure all of your printers have DHCP reservations or static IPs assigned in your router, not just manually entered on the handhelds. That prevents IPs from changing.
2. Verify the handhelds and printers are all on the same Wi-Fi network and subnet. Guest networks or network isolation can prevent discovery.
3. Confirm each printer is assigned to the correct Printer Profile and that each handheld is using the intended profile.
If you're using managed networking equipment, make sure features like AP/client isolation or VLAN separation aren't blocking communication.
Since you're comfortable with networking, this honestly sounds less like a printer issue and more like a network discovery/configuration problem.
4. If everything checks out and you're still having intermittent receipt printing, I'd recommend contacting Square Support. They can review the handheld logs and printer assignments to see if there's a known issue with your hardware or software version. Restaurant setups with multiple network printers can sometimes require a deeper look than what's possible through community troubleshooting.
Hopefully one of these will solve your problem.
