Printer-Driven Cash Drawer Stopped automatically opening

We've been live Square Register customers for about 2 months. Our Printer-Driven Cash Drawer has been flaking out over the past couple of weeks. (We have the Star Micronics TSP143IIIU printer and Star Micronics 37965600 cash drawer attached to a Square Register.)

 

- The most pressing issue is that the drawer stopped automatically opening after cash transactions today. This is a huge hassle.
- Initially, the button on the main screen of the register to open the drawer became greyed out and didn't work.
- After a week or so of that, the button under the Actions screen to open the drawer also greyed out. However, from time to time, it becomes functional again.

 

I have confirmed that all the connections are secure and have restarted both the register and the receipt printer (unplugged for 1 minute and plugged back in).

 

A previous support agent informed me that there is a known software bug that will be addressed in January. Does anyone know if that bug covers the issue of the drawer not automatically opening?

 

We're only 2 months into using Square hardware and already experiencing problems. To be honest, I'm getting nervous that we made the wrong choice by going with Square hardware.

Hello @mattmcmanus, I am really sorry to hear you are having issues with your cash drawer not working. I understand the frustration and are happy to investigate this further.

 

When you are looking at the hardware section on the Register does it show the printer as connected? Are you having issues with the printer at all, or just the cash drawer? Have you tried deleting the printer station completely and reconnecting it? What software version is your Register on?
