Hello,
I have a customer interested in purchasing 100 physical gift cards from my shop. To ensure a smooth transaction and minimize wait time, I'd like to preload these gift cards and save the sale as a ticket before the customer arrives for payment.
I have a few questions:
Is it possible to load multiple physical gift cards in advance and save the transaction as a ticket in Square Register?
Is there a limit to the number of gift cards that can be loaded or displayed on the screen at once?
Is it possible to apply a discount—e.g., $1 off each gift card—as part of the bulk order?
Are there any best practices for handling large gift card orders like this to keep the process smooth and fast?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hello @WST90 !
First, good job on the sale! Slightly jealous over here.... 🙂
In answer to your questions:
1. Yes, you can create an open ticket with the gift cards loaded on them. The cards aren't officially loaded with funds until payment is complete so they'd be considered like any other item at a saved ticket state.
2. As far as I know, no there isn't an upper limit on the amount of items in your cart. If it's a worry overall, you may be better off splitting the sale into two separate transactions.
3. If you're using a dollar off discount, you'll need to apply it manually at some point of the transaction, so I think it would be the easiest just to put a total dollar off discount (i.e. $100 discount for 100 cards) before saving the ticket or cashing it out. Please note you'll need a variable dollar discount set up before you can do this.
4. Probably my only major complaint about gift cards is that we can't bulk load cards since the numbers change. So my advice is to get comfy, have a good drink somewhere nearby, and swipe away.
Hope this helps!

Thanks so much! I ended up dividing the transaction into 4 tickets just to be on the safe side, I don't want to be swiping a 100 gift cards in front of the customer if something goes wrong at checkout. Fingers crossed for a smooth transaction!
