New Checkout Experience Can't Switch Unit

I have been using the old version of cart/check out on the Square register but it just forced me over to the new style. I have multiple units in my variations for different pack sizes. My UPC barcodes are assigned to the most used unit (usually a 6pk or 4pk we are a liquor store that sells beer). When I have something scanned in and I add the quantity and put it in the cart, I can't click on it and change the unit. It makes me remove the item and rescan it. I just found that I can switch the unit before I enter the quantity and put it in the cart. I would be great if I could just switch it wherever. I feel like this should be simplified in the user experience. It's a little too convoluted.

This was something I was able to do with the old style of cart/check out.

Is the 4pk and 6pk part of a variation?  We have switched over to the new check out also.  When you add an item to the cart you can tap on the variation and they appear.  Below is a couple of screenshots from my checkout.

This only works if the barcode is on a unit that's not the single default unit. If the barcode is assigned to the default unit it won't allow you to add it. Where you would normally click to add the quantity it will just say remove.20240207_131151_HDR.jpg

That is odd, when I scan in an item and tap on it you can change the quantity.  Everything looks the same between mine and your screens, except I have a photo attached

Everything works as it should for most scenarios. This is only happening in one particular scenario. If you have the barcode attached to the default "per item" unit and try to switch units it just says remove where the quantity should be.

I'm not sure if your inventory is set up like mine. We're a liquor store that sells beer. We receive 24pk cases of beer and have to break them down into units like 4pks 6pks or 12pks. We have to have the singles come out of the same stock count as the 4pks so we set up different units under a variation. If you did separate variations under an item, each variation would have discreet stock counts.

Each item/size we have a separate barcode for it. When you break down the 24pk to 4, 6 and 12pks, do you use the same barcode as the 24pk? If so that could be the problem.  If you tried just making a 4, 6 and 12 pk barcode to see if that would work?
