Keep getting message reader issue what do I do

I keep getting a message reader issue. The square is charged, phone is paired Bluetooth is on settings say everything is ok but can't take a payment

Welcome to the community - I’m sorry to see that it’s an issue with your Reader that’s brought you here. 


Factory resetting the Reader and re-pairing it, will normally resolve any Reader issues you encounter. 

 

To hard reset your Square Reader:

  1. Plug in the Square Reader for at least 20 minutes to be sure it has a charge.
  2. Firmly press and hold the power button on the Square Reader for 20 seconds or until the red lights stop blinking.
  3. Immediately release when the red lights stop blinking.
  4. Press the power button again to turn on the Square Reader and observe any lights on the Square Reader. Note: If Square Reader is plugged in, it will not power off after a hard reset.

To do a full device unpair:

  1. Go to your device’s bluetooth settings.
  2. On an Android device, find your Square Reader and select Unpair.
  3. On an iOS device, tap the “i” icon beside Square Reader and select Forget this Device.

To pair the Square Reader with your device:

  1. Open the Square app and tap ≡ More.
  2. Tap Settings > Hardware > Square readers.
  3. Tap Connect a Reader.
  4. Put Square Reader into pairing mode by pressing the power button to the right of the charging port for about 2-3 seconds until you see 4 orange blinking lights.
  5. Immediately release your finger when you see these orange lights.
    • If you see red lights, you’ve held the button too long and you can try again. Do not let go of the power button until after the red lights have stopped flashing.
  6. Tap Pair on the prompt to confirm the Bluetooth pairing request.

 

Some Android devices will require multiple confirmations during the pairing process. So, if the connection fails, start the pairing process over and make sure to accept all prompts to pair within 5 seconds.


If you continue to have issues after this, please double-check that your device is compatible here, and then reinstall the Square app before beginning the process again.
