We have an older square system (6+ years old) that has operated well during that time, but has started dropping the wifi signal. We have rebooted the router and the ipad a few times but nothing seems to last. What can be doing this.?
@SHYC Are you talking about the ipad? or square terminal? just to be sure. I would try a new wifi router to before I blame the ipad.
Routers can start to flake out over time, especially after 5–6 years of continuous use, and if they are deprecated newer firmware updates don’t always play nice with older hardware or no updates at all. I would try a different one first. I just had a nighthawk router that was dropping signal continuously on the 2.4ghz band. I actually locked the router to a specific channel but I also locked it at 20mhz on the 2.4ghz radio, basically made it more compatible with older hardware, and this calmed it down. It was kinda dumb, I had my staff dealing with this flaky tablet disconnecting and reconnecting every 20 mins, with a really unstable connection.
Run a speedtest dot net on it and look at the jitter. If the jitter is really high, or the ping high, then that is more than likely what you are experiencing.
