I recently updated firmware on my terminal. Since then, I am unable to create orders and transactions with my terminal. I have a basic understanding that this is related to the new modes feature but I am unclear how to change or edit the modes so that my terminal works as before.
I use Square for a retail beef sale operation. I use the square app in web browser on PC, Square PoS app on IOS, and a Square Terminal. All options are (were) setup the same way with ability to create orders, transact sales, and take payments.
In early March 2025, I updated my item/inventory list. I restarted and updated all Square apps at the same time. Now, the terminal starts but instead of my normal checkout screen, all I have is black screen with logo and “Powered by Square” in center, date in upper left, and wifi + battery level in upper right. I can’t initiate a transaction using the terminal.
My terminal now works only to accept payments. If I create a sale on PC or IOS app, it pops up on the terminal and requests payment. I don’t want that. I want to create orders from my terminal as well as accept payment. How do I do that?
@TheMeatGuy it sounds like you activated the terminal using a device code from the point of sale which turns it into a customer facing screen. Try logging out, and you will need to log in with your credentials, or create a device code from the online dashboard, not the point of sale.
