How do you track what vendor an uncategorized sale is from?

We have 20 plus vendors in our marketplace.  They all have their own categories but sometimes they want to have a sale on an item so we just enter it as a custom amount because you can't discount just 1 item during a sale (don't even get me started on this). We keep a handwritten log of what custom amounts were charged and what vendor they belong to, but sometimes staff miss recording things when we are super busy and there is a line at the register.  Just wondering if anyone has a better solution since you can't enter what a custom charge was for on the POS.

Hello @MKCO thanks for your post. Are you using a Square App or POS Register, or terminal to accept your payments? I hate to "get you started" LOL...please forgive me...but you should be allowed to apply a discount to a specific item in your transaction?

Do you have your vendor items all input into your inventory...or do you just input a dollar amount for each item during a sale?

Hi!  We are using Square Register.  We own a community kitchen where vendors can sell there food items.  At the end of the week vendors like to "last chance Sale" items that are nearing expiration.  These items are in inventory in the system but it would be nice to be able to apply the discount to them.  I learned the hard way that I can't apply the 50% off coupon to just one item in the cart.  We had an entire day of sales where ALL items in a sale where the coupon button was hit sold at the 50% off, we lost a ton of money.  Now we just enter a custom amount on any sale items and log them by hand in a book.

Hello @MKCO !

Not to step on @HC_Charlie 's toes here, but I think I can add a little bit of insight...

To address the issue of not being able to discount individual items, I can tell you that this can happen! If you tap on the item in the "tape" on the right side of the screen, a item configuration screen will pop up. If you scroll down on that screen, you'll find a list of discounts. Tapping on one of those will enable that discount for that item, not the entire tab. You are correct in that the discounts list when you're on the main screen will apply the discount to the entire ticket.

As for the custom amount there isn't a way to categorize it. If you want, what you can do is create a Misc Item per vendor category. If you leave the price blank you will be prompted to enter it at time of sale, so you can have specially priced items that still tag to the correct vendor.

@MKCOwhat @ryanwanner says about applying a discount to one item is the method you can use. I use the ALL THE TIME, especially for seasonal discounts in my store.
