Does Square accept Spriggy or Westpac Youth Eftpos cards?

Hi there

we are a junior and senior sporting club and finding that minors who have their own cards wont work, in particular and one using spriggy/kit or westpac youth

we have followed the instructions for age restrictions but we dont have that as an option

i didnt set up the account and google isnt helping me,

we cant be the only ones out there with this issue - how did you resolve it

im assuming its a setting somewhere, ive checked with our bank and its not that.

we do sell alcohol but we also sell merchandise and food, they cannot even use it at the canteen during games that doesnt sell alcohol.

anyone have any ideas how to get around this?

Hi @EXSCC,

Thanks for reaching out to us with your question!

I'm not personally familiar with this type of Eftpos card, but it may not currently be supported by Square for payment processing. Do you happen to know if these Eftpos cards have a chip?

I ask because Square only accepts Eftpos chip cards, and Eftpos cards without a chip cannot be processed for payments. At this time, Square works with any Australian-issued and most international chip cards or magstripe cards with a Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and JCB logo, as well as bank-issued Eftpos chip cards.

You can learn more about accepted cards here.

If you have any further questions about accepted cards, feel free to let me know! I'm happy to help.

Hi @EXSCC,

After further investigation, it seems several Sellers have reported issues with Spriggy cards. This is not a problem with Square, but rather a limitation in how Spriggy cards are configured to restrict payments at certain businesses based on their own merchant restrictions.

Currently, because your business sells alcohol along with other food and products, your categorisation at Square means these cards cannot be used for payment processing. Customers will need to use a different card brand or cash instead.

Thanks for confirming, @EXSCC!

When you tried processing the payment with the Mastercard card, do you recall the specific error message that appeared on your app?

If it was related to age restrictions, it’s worth checking that these restrictions haven’t been inadvertently applied to bulk items, particularly if the same item was added to the cart in both cases. However, if the error message was different, such as "Payment declined," it could indicate an issue with unavailable funds on the customer’s card—especially if other card types are working fine.

Hi Laurie have tried inserting and can confirm enough funds as it’s my sons account

it processes than says declined

I have tried the age restrictions on items but we don’t get that as an option to put on or take off.

I’ve spoken to other local clubs and they don’t have this problem.

is there a setting or selection that could have been made upon set up? I can’t find it anywhere but thought I’d ask.
