I am liking the affordability of the terminal because it prints receipts but need a scanner for my clothing as I have the occasional employee and scanning is easier for them. Can the terminal be connected to a scanner?
Hi @Cashato1 ,
I do NOT believe it is possible to connect a Square terminal to a scanner. I believe you need to connect the scanner to either a Square Stand or Register to have that functionality.
If you purchase the Square terminal hub you can connect a barcode scanner to the terminal. We have use a cheap 25.00 scanner and a Honeywell scanner with no problems. below is a link to the hub for terminal. The hub that comes with the Square stand will not work, it has to be the hub for the terminal.
Thanks @rtfulk . I was unaware that worked. I actually wondered about it, but then thought I have never seen anyone ever using it, or discussing it, so I mistakenly assumed it did not. Thanks for clarifying/correcting!
@SVLFever I didn't think it would work for a while because I was connecting the terminal to the Square stand hub. It would not see the scanner, then I saw the hub designed for the terminal and found one cheap on Ebay, thought I would give it a shot and the scanner worked. I don't know what the difference is between the Square stand hub and the terminal hub, you would think they both would be the same.
That’s fantastic I’m glad I asked!!! I’m just not in a place that I want a whole system. Any chance you know which Honeywell scanner you got? When you buy the square terminal does it come with the hub or do they order separately?
@Cashato1 @We use the Honeywell Voyager 1200g. It has a magnet where the scanner sits and when you put a price tag near it, it will automatically come on and scan then turn off. The hub does not come with the terminal, I purchased mine on eBay for 20.00. If you purchase one on eBay just be sure the hub is made for the Square terminal. A good way to make sure it is the correct one, it will have a Ethernet port on it.
Thank you so much
You're welcome
You were all so helpful and now I am looking for advice on label printer. Apparently it matters for square or any label maker work?
@Cashato1 For barcode labels? I use a Dymo Labelwriter 450, you can buy non dymo labels and use with it and it works great with Square.
