2 devices with different payment methods

"Square does not let us setup 2 devices with different payment methods at one location"
 
We are trying to set-up 
 
  1. POS 1: Hardware: Square Register, Software: Square Free Version, Payment Method: Debit-Credit Card, Status: Working Fine.
  2. POS 2: Hardware: Square Register, Software: Square for Restaurants, Payment Method: Cash & Debit-Credit Card, Status: Does not let me add Cash Payment.
We have tried:
  1. Various configurations: free version on both registers, restaurants on both registers etc. Did not solve the problem.
  2. We have tried creating "Shared Settings" under Point of Sales Devices. This did not work.
  3. We have restarted, updated, and returned to factory settings. This did not work.
We have been in touch with support for many months about this issue, and in theory should be able to put independent payment configurations on these devices but this feature is not working.
 
Contacting support has not been helpful as they are all working from trouble shooting scripts and don't understand the system well.

Hey there @Border I am sorry you are having such difficulties setting up payment methods and with our support. 

 

I want to make sure I understand this correctly so I can better assist. On your second register, the one using Square for Restaurants you are not seeing an option for cash. Or is it that when you select cash it won't process the transaction? If you have any videos or screenshots of what is happening that would be great.

Thank you @Border for the video and follow-up. 

 

Have you tried completely signing out of the Square for Restaurants application? Once you sign out sign in with your email/password. Then select the Standard Point of Sale. Once you are signed into the standard app go to More > Settings > Checkout > Payment types> Enable cash. Once you enable the payment method from the standard app it will then show in the Square Restaurants app once you sign back in.

Yes I have tried that and it did not work because it syncs the payment method in both devices. I’ve also tried to use 2 devices with the free version and it’s not possible and it has not been possible to set them up with different payment methods on each device.

On your Restaurant Device code, do you have Manage Device Using Shared Settings turned on? If so can we disable that, and is the same thing still happening, it's enabling the cash on both devices @Border.

No. They are not set up as shared devices. Neither am I using shared device configuration. I invite you to try to have to set up 2 devices with different payments method each one and let me know!

I would not consider this an additional feature. The feature exists to configure the devices independently, and therefore I should be able to configure the payment methods independently as this is a central function of a PoS. It’s more like an oversight or design flaw, and I have been waiting over a year for Square to address it.
