@Helen & some of her peers posted a great write up on social media over here and I wanted to add to the conversation but not highjack their post. I am 41 years old, I am a business owner, I am a dad who loves to be awkward and funny around his kids. What I am not is good at social media.
In todays world kids are creating deepfakes on their smartphones to fake an absence from school (fake, but probably not for long). I do not know how to write catchy tag lines, or engaging emails. I am not great at taking photos for social media posts, I can't draw cute pictures. How am I going to keep my business active on the net?
To use new AI tools like ChatGPT people are overwhelmed and afraid to try it out, but once you realize how easy it is, it will change the way you do almost everything that involves your business when you get more comfortable.
The more specific you are with a GPT the better it will respond to what you are asking, but you never have to know any custom programming languages or secret codes written in ancient geek. You just talk like you would another human, and just like other humans their can be misunderstandings and the need for clarification and refinement.
Today we are going to create an Instagram post for my pet shop for February, we pay for the premium version of chat GPT which i think is about $25/mth Canadian. I don't keep track of all features currently behind a paywall but some features are free and some are not. I do believe my subscription pays for itself in the amount of times I use it a month. Some actions suggested could be behind a paywall such as image generation.
I log into my ChatGPT account and start a new "chat"
---GPT CONVERSATION---
You:
You are Instagram Marketer GPT you are helping a pet shop market for February which is Pet Dental Month. Help me make some captions and some pictures to promote dental health among our customers
ChatGPT:
That sounds like a great initiative! Here are a few caption ideas for your pet shop's Instagram posts to promote Pet Dental Month:
"Bright smiles for your furry friends! 🐶🐱 Celebrate Pet Dental Month with our special dental care products. #PetDentalHealth #SmileBright"
"Don't forget the teeth! This Pet Dental Month, let's focus on keeping those pearly whites healthy. 🦷 Check out our dental care range! #HealthyPets #DentalCare"
"A healthy mouth is a happy pet! Join us in promoting dental health this February. Explore our dental treats and toys. #PetDentalMonth #HappyHealthyPets"
"Brush, clean, and play! It's Pet Dental Month and we're here to make dental hygiene fun for your pets! 🐾 #DentalFun #PetCare"
"Love their smile as much as their wag! Discover our dental solutions for pets this month. #PetSmiles #DentalHealthMonth"
For the images, I can create a few designs that align with these captions. Let's start with one and see if it fits your vision.
The first image could feature a happy dog or cat with a bright, clean smile, surrounded by dental care products like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental treats. This would be a vibrant and engaging image to attract attention to the importance of dental health for pets. Let me create this image for you.
Here's an image that could go well with one of the captions I suggested. It features a joyful dog and a cat with bright, healthy smiles, surrounded by pet dental care products. This vibrant and engaging visual is perfect for promoting Pet Dental Month on your Instagram page.
Feel free to use this image with any of the captions or let me know if you need more ideas or another image!
---END GPT CONVERSATION---
At this point like any other creative conversation with our marketing team we could offer feedback and suggestions, asking for more comical or friendly tones, perhaps I want GPT to add a engaging question to the posts to get traction. The more you engage the more you will be able to refine and interact with your GPT to get the exact copy, imagery or other details for your posts.
Young or old, skilled or not, having AI to assist you in taking your ideas and making them a reality with the clarity you need is going to give you confidence to post more often !
That’s a great post . ChatGPT is amazing at animals. It’s not so good at some things. I asked it to show a box of dozen roses it was a bit generous.
I then asked for it to do a diamond in the centre of a rose - interesting. !
I then asked to do a cat and it was amazing
The trick will be in refining your prompt, and then using additional prompts. Like if you said "that is more than a dozen roses, can you reassess your design" it would likely do better. I had to give it 5 or 6 refinements but it was able to give me my 12 dozen roses.
I have adobe firefly - paid for and chat gpt with credits and Bard beta
I used a free AI art generator a few weeks ago, you were only allowed to create 12 pictures a day if I remember correctly. But I found Google has https://bard.google.com/chat which I just used for free to create this for Valentines day.... Tried the 12 roses thing like Twiggy but in a Heart shaped wicker basket instead of a box. Here is what I typed in "
Ended up getting a Bakers Dozen lol.
Love this discussion @JTPets! We did not mention AI in the blog article which was a miss on our part - it's a great topic to consider for a future blog article. Thanks for starting the conversation here and sharing your tips!
From a coding perspective it's incredibly easy to use also. I've been playing around with the concept of affiliate marketing recently and trying to automate the whole process. I have a script that searches (for example) Amazon for the top selling 'xxx' and pull out all the data I need. I push this data to a custom post type in a wordpress site which is primarily a best of type shop with affiliate links. In only a few lines of code I've had chat gpt provide me with short creative description of each product. It's incredibly cost effective and so far all my testing which would be about 100 of these generations has cost $0.02

I use Firefly, Bard beta and photoroom for AI backgrounds on our photos. Photoroom hasn't quite got animals down yet. about 95% of the time they look like zombie animals.
The one thing I have ran into with Bard beta is, it gets a little liberal wanting to offer discounts in the description. I have to refine my request or just go in and remove part of the text.
this is incredibly helpful..
I love love love Chat GPT.. but at this point I can always tell when writing is 100% AI.. so I always use their tag lines or copy as a jumping off point... making slight tweaks so their language more completely aligns with the tone of our brand.
It makes me glad I'm exiting the retail industry because at least I will not have to choose between leveraging questionable AI generators versus supporting artists.
ChatGPT and AI art is all being trained off of questionably sourced material and it will honestly have a knock on effect for future artists that can't compete with AI art to build a portfolio in order to hone their skills.
I personally feel that businesses should not adopt AI art or AI text until they promise to use ethical sources and properly compensate artists that they take material from.
I get why it can be so appealing to small businesses to save money but the current system is questionable at best and the results are either great or super obvious to the end customer.
Well now you have really convinced me! I use the free version of GPT...but was thinking about going all in to explore the other features as well. Generating photos!!!!! Oh yes. This alone covers the monthly price. I use GPT to create social media campaigns, create sales funnel, social media post that I can plug into Canva, email responses....the list is endless. And this is all with the free version so I'm excited how the paid version can really up my game lol 🙂
I just received an email that Bard is now generating images, so far every time I try it, it just pulls images from the web.
