Search Customer by Reference ID

Can you make the customer reference ID searchable? We assign each customer profile a unique ID and that makes searching them so much easier than going by First Name, Last Name except that these ID's aren't searchable. 

Please add this functionality.

I would also like to test this feature.  I can scan the refrence ID and find a customer, but when I type the refrence ID in currently my Test Refrence ID shows as no item or something similar in my catalog.  I was taping the Add Customer before typing the refrence code in I believe.  But when I scanned My test account showed right up with all the information.
