END DRAWER

END DRAWER

The last time it was brought up was in 2016. 7 years ago.  As a retail store, when an employee ends the drawer, have an additional way to count the drawer.  As in...
$100.00        (amount)

$50.00          (amount)

$20.00          (amount)

so on and so forth....

Close drawer should also have a count as in how much is in the drawer for starting cash for the employee closing. So when a different employee opens the drawer, another count is made.  An alert should notify the manager/owner of a wrong starting drawer.  Leaving it up to the employees or putting the burden of faith and loyalty on them when the drawer is wrong... is wrong.  Managers or whoever we assign as owners should be immediately notified when a drawer is off. Especially when we have multiple registers....
why have an employee use a calculator when square should do it anyways.

Re: END DRAWER

I second a more robust drawer and close out/open system is needed. It's hard to pinpoint issues with the drawer count because it could be human input error when using a calculator.

One of the nice things about Square versus a traditional POS with separate CC processor is that there's less errors because you're not manually inputting the amount on a CC machine. This is the equivalence, having to use a calculator leads to human error. they should be putting the amount of quarters, dimes, nickels, $1, $5, $10 etc. I don't believe they should know what the previous count came to, it should just alert us live that the count is off. (I prefer blind drops so that there are fewer opportunities for shenanigans.

I wish the end drawer had some more robust options like you mentioned as well.

Hi @jgrgetich ,

Thanks for circling back and asking for an update on this request.

We certainly understand the frustration of having to wait for a feature to be built out. After looking further into this I can confirm this is something our Product Team is not currently planning on implementing right now. Although this feature isn’t currently available with Square, it’s a great suggestion and I can see how it would be beneficial to many sellers' businesses.

To other sellers that see this feature, please leave a like and reply with a use case that your business would have. This will help to signal that this feature request is even more important to address. We will keep an eye on this request and update the status as we have more information.

We appreciate you taking the time to provide your insight.

I am a little shocked by how this is not higher or more pressing on the list, especially when this has been a pretty frequent request over the years.

I guess my question for you, and other square team members who oversee this board and even this part of the program, how do you see businesses closing out at the end of the day? Can you give me a step by step list so I can better understand your perspective on this?

because to be truthful, with all of the posts I have seen over the years, and requests I have made personally, there is a lot of sellers that want to see a far more robust and controlled end of day/drawer close process that is built in.

we pay a significant amount of money to use a system called Jotform, where I had to create the form, logic, and approval process for our end of day process. When they enter the starting cash, total cash sales, refunds, paid in/outs, and what they actually counted, it calculates the amount for the deposit that they should take out of the drawer. It just seems like we are missing something that seems to be fairly simple to integrate into a drawer close process i that would make so many sellers more happy.

As of right now, there is no control over a closed drawer.  Square should implement a calculator to a closed drawer, how many 20.00, $10.00, $5.00...so on and so forth.
Our employee that closes, counts drawer, utilizing a calculator, cash sales goes into a deposit bag, calculator strip at end of day goes into the register.  As Managers or Owners, we need to be notified if a drawer count is off.  We never know.  We have an extra change slot in a drawer if the count is off by a few cents and they off set the drawer to ensure the starting cash is what it is supposed to be. New employee in the open part of the store.  The register is counted when opening and square should not let an employee proceed until the count is imputed in the register, covering that employees count and not relying on a calculator strip the previous employee made the night before.  I mean, its so easy to reprint another calculator strip.

We should not have to utilize a calculator to end a drawer or start a drawer.  The end of drawer button should come up with a calculator as soon as someone hits end drawer, count the drawer, enter in the bills and coins on separate line items and then when the final count is accepted, a final button should be hit, printing out the end of day totals.  The end of day should also let an employee know what the cash deposit should be as well.

This is a serious issue when it comes to money and square does not take it as serious as they should when it comes to a brick and mortar store.  We are not using ipads or phones at the register.  We are using square register for retail. So much for so little. We may end up switching.

Quickbooks POS offered the calculator feature during their end drawer. Clover did not, and now Ive made the switch to Square, which I was excited to have end drawer until I saw it still lacks the features that make it useful.

As others have requested, there should be a Start Drawer count with pop up for input, and a End Drawer with same. It is not redundant because there could have easily been a mistake when the drawer was ended and counted correctly, but maybe employee makes error on the actual deposit it removes from til. You'd be able to find that right away in the AM. Right now I make employee do a manual sheet count with their name in the AM so they cover themselves for any mistakes before any sale is made or an error pops up in expected amount end of day.

We typically use a tablet/desktop next to our register, and have "moneycounter" website open to avoid using a time consuming calculator or excel table

Lastly, the report that shows the deposit cash for end of day doesn't actually show the NET deposit! If there was a cash refund, it doesnt account for that refund! It shows it on the print out report, but theres no new total below... So ive had to inform employees of this, if they see a cash refund on the end drawer report, to subtract it, and that is the right cash deposit....

@ED2023 try using jot form.

here is a clone of what we used when we were still using square. We will be using clover at the new store due to software only compatible with clover.

You can find my form "Clone of DRAWER CLOSE REPORT" at: https://form.jotform.com/222455950949164

use the print out from the drawer close from square to fill it out. It should give you an amount to deposit. We did not deposit coin, so it will always give you a full dollar amount but that can be adjusted in the math.

you can also add a section to enter each kind of coin and bill type, calculate a total and so on. Then they create a PDF to print out and staple the bag deposit ticket and the pos print out.

this can also be connected to a google sheet and will track every entry that way as well. Feel free to play with the clone and if you want to reach out I’ll give you my email and help walk you through jotform. But we use that for a multitude of reasons which is helpful to have the google sheets so I can have an excel file of every entry.

hope this helps since they don’t seem to think this is an important feature to have and part of why we are leaving square. We loved them otherwise for a lot of reasons so it’s sad we are parting ways.

We would love an opening and closing drawer system where you key in the quantity of the bills and coins. Helps with errors.

Also there should be a setting to force a drawer count in the morning so we can hold people accountable and see where and when money went missing.

Please add these features, shouldn’t be too hard plus we pay a lot for the monthly retail subscription, helping us keep money in the drawer benefits Square in the long run.

@Adamscottsmith thank you for the suggestion! I don’t see us making it through much longer with Square either. The basic features specially with employee management is so outdated and full of glitches, then you have this drawer problem and the reporting for the drawer count is awful, how could the paper not show the new total net cash after any cash refund?! It’s not logical imo.  Anyway, what software are you going to next? I’ve tried QB, clover.

@ED2023 we are a liquor store and using a special software called coalbalt but it only works on the clover system. Plus we got an amazing processing rate through Commerce Bank. So it just makes more sense. Even though with our processing volume being so highly with square, we got a special rate but it was still well over what we will be paying now.
