Question about customers, marketing, and interests/custom fields

The recent upgrade to the app integration with MailChimp offers some interesting features, including being able to ask customers to segment themselves via profile updates. I'm tempted to move my email marketing from Square to MailChimp. 

That said, the advantage of Square Marketing is being able to reach vast numbers of customers who have not specifically given me their email address (but have authorized Square to contact them on behalf of Square sellers). This expands my marketing universe by nearly double (I think). 

My issue is that I can't seem to easily ask customers in the square universe to self-segment themselves. Is it possible to send an email to the Square universe of customers, and ask them to specify their interests, so I don't have to send ONLY to Square's metadata?

@UCBaking you bring up a fascinating idea. I'd like to hear more about how you'd put this to use. Would you have them self-select into Square-created categories or do you have some profiles based on product category, interest, topic, etc?

Thanks for your question and insight into what you would like to do with email marketing and self-segmenting. At this time, this is a  feature request, however, we have escalated your case to our Marketing team for further review, they may have a good workaround suggestion for us. 

I do know that Square gives sellers the ability to collect specific information by creating custom fields in the Directory tab but that doesn’t allows us to filter by these custom fields to easily create groups to send an email.

In the meantime, we would like to invite you to our Ideate board where you can create this feature request. In this board, any Square seller with the same interest can help you create a case for greater visibility to our product team.

Sorry for the delay @UCBaking - I tried my best to gather more details with other teams to provide a workaround, at this time, it doesn't seem like there is a way to do what you wish with email marketing. 

I hope to see this feature in the future.
