Question About Square Loyalty Program and Credit Card Linking

I own a boba shop and use Square’s loyalty program. I’ve noticed an issue where customers enter their friend’s phone number for rewards but pay with their own credit card. Since Square automatically links the card to that loyalty account, the next time they use their card, the points still go to their friend instead of their own account.

I know I can manually delete or adjust loyalty accounts, but this happens often and takes up a lot of my staff’s time—especially during busy hours.

Is there a way to disable automatic credit card linking so that customers have to check in with their phone number each time to earn points? If so, how can I set that up?

Thanks for your help!

Just searched around and we did not find this as an option!

We have had this happened and we also have to manually adjust this.

Wish we could help but wanted to let you know you aren't alone!

Same issue, doesn't look like there is currently an option. waiting on a call from our Square account manager.

yeah, I don't like that either. My customers don't always use the same credit card and it's not always the same number they entered in the loyalty program so it gets all convoluted. The loyalty program needs to be tied to the customer not the credit card or phone number. I have a route business and we sell to the same customers each week so its a real problem for me. I wish they would set it up so the points only go to the customer the salesman associates with the sale. and not to whatever phone number is associated with the card they happen to use next.

I dont think that's an option but we use the new square register with customer facing screen that we leave on. It directly shows the customer to login to their account before placing the order and then it wont matter how they pay (cash included). Hope that helps!
